The Active Adult Program endorses the following fitness classes for older adults:

Land and Water Fitness
The following programs are intended to meet the changing needs of our older adult membership. For a complete listing of all land and water fitness programs, please check the Service Desk or the online schedules.

Fresh Start
A land fitness that includes a cardiovascular workout and strength exercises. May include some yoga, Pilates and balance exercises. This is conducted at low-moderate intensity. The music is softer and the movements a little less intense than our traditional classes. Music includes big band, classical, rock, Latin, swing and country.

Sit & Be Fit
A chair fitness for those just starting out in an exercise program, have problems with balance or are frail. Cardio and strength exercises are all done sitting in, or holding onto the back of a chair.

Aqua Arthritis
A gentle movement for persons with arthritis or other joint limitations. Concentrates on improving range of motion and strengthening muscles to improve functional fitness. It is appropriate for persons who need a "non-impact" fitness class.

Aquacize
A moderate intensity water fitness that focuses on improving cardiovascular fitness and strengthening muscles. It also includes stretching before and after class.

Gentle Yoga
A gentlerversion of our regular Yoga, this can increase flexibility, strengthen muscles, improve posture, relax the body and reduce stress. A "sticky mat" is recommended.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
We are looking for senior adults who can give a few hours a month to our YMCA. From childcare to older adults there are opportunities to share your time and skills with others. Call us for information.
